I am a passionate and skilled professional born in Barcelona with a Master’s Degree in Computer Security and Intelligent Systems. My journey into the world of technology began with a profound fascination for video games, leading me to excel in video game design, C++ programming, apassionate of great design, and understanding low-level architectures.
I am excited to announce that I have joined Katoid as a Senior C++ Developer! I will be sharing more about this position and my journey soon!
In my previous role as a Senior Developer at Northwestern University, I developed applications and software to aid research in bioinformatics, medicine and complex systems, mainly for macOS and iOS platforms.
During this time, I have developed five apps that are now available on the app store: Rainflow, Find My Understudied Genes, Earthtunes, TobbStop, and FlyEye Silhouette, which ranks in the top 150 apps in Education.
I am proficient in Swift, Cocoa, SwiftUI and frameworks like Accelerate, enabling me to develop efficient algorithms and user-friendly applications.
Some projects
Rainflow for macOS
Typical flow cytometry experiments can simultaneously measure the expression of 25-40 proteins in millions of single cells. However, the lack of reproducible analysis techniques hinders deriving actionable insights from this data.
Rainflow is an interactive application that automates flow cytometry data analysis for increased reproducibility. It leverages a commercially available reagent -rainbow beads- to establish ground truth signals. Broad spectrum fluorescence beads are mixed with sample cells to create an internal control for each sample.
Subsequently, bead signal properties, such as drift, stretch, and dispersion, can be used to identify poor-quality samples and align signals from samples collected across several days. This improves the performance of automated cell-type analysis algorithms as observed by merging homogenous cell populations, which were artificially split due to technical artifacts, while simultaneously revealing true biological variation within normal and cancer cells.
Algorithms and models are being incorporated into a Python package and Apple App Store application.
FlyEye Silhouette for macOS
Silhouette is the founding member of the FlyEye suite; a free collection of software designed to aid researchers in quantifying their analysis of the Drosophila larval eye.
Silhouette turns raw microscopy data into cell-specific measurements that are suitable for quantitative analysis. To generate each measurement, Silhouette automatically identifies all cells within an image then quantifies the properties of each identified cell. In addition to morphological properties such as cell size and position, the intensities of fluorescent reporters are quantified by averaging all of the pixels within each identified cell.
Silhouette also provides a graphical user interface that allows users to efficiently annotate each measurement. For instance, users may label identified nuclei with their apparent cell type. Annotation may also be performed on handheld devices using Silhouette Touch. In either case, assigned labels are appended to the Silhouette file structure in real time, facilitating label-based querying during later stages of analysis.
Earthtunes
Earthtunes is a mobile application that helps you listen to normally inaudible sounds within the Earth beneath us. These sounds are caused by seismic waves and are so low in frequency that our ears do not hear them. Most of these seismic waves are weak and continuously generated by a range of environmental sources. Some of these seismic waves are strong and caused by earthquakes.
FMUG: Find My Understudied Genes
Find My Understudied Genes (FMUG) is a data-driven tool to help biomedical researchers identify understudied genes and characterize their tractability for future research.
Users submit a list of human genes (presumably from a high-throughput -omics experiment) and can filter these genes down based on a large list of factors, including:
- Number of articles about gene
- Probability of differential expression
- Homology in model organisms
- Availability of reagents
- Number of articles about relationship between gene and disease
- …and many more!

TobbStop
TobbStop is an app to help patients quit smoking. It was developed by a multidisciplinary team of health experts, software engineers, game designers and graphic designers. It is an e-health app that includes the latest gamification and mobile learning technologies.
TobbStop was created to be used in a clinical study in order to test if an app could be an effective aid in the process of quitting smoking. To access the app, you must be part of the clinical trial.

Hace más de cinco años decidí comenzar a escribir ficciones sobre la vida y el porqué de todo lo que nos rodea. Fue un proceso divertido que me permitió sacar la creatividad que tenía escondida detrás de los números y los algoritmos.
Al principio, tan solo quería expresar sentimientos y plasmarlos en un papel. Sin saber cómo, los textos se transformaron en una bonita historia donde explico el viaje de un escéptico a la espiritualidad, desde el desconocimiento, y sin perder nunca el vínculo con la ciencia y la realidad.
Este libro no pretende ser un libro de autoayuda ni de esoterismo, tan solo una historia corta donde cada lector me puede acompañar en este viaje y llegar a hacerse las mismas preguntas que me hice hace más de cinco años.
